When asked by a friend about books that boys will enjoy, I decided to do a little research. I began by asking a co-worker who is reading the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson. She is in her early twenties and has been devouring the series. Yesterday we had our lunch breaks at the same time and she was immersed in the third book, laughing out loud, she shared a couple pages with me that I admit were funny and enticed me to learn more. Thus, I visited James Patterson's site to read about Maximum Ride.
The series consists of seven books, with the eighth to be released this August. Six kids, 98 percent human and two percent bird, were brought up in a lab, living like rats, until they got free. Now they are on a mission. That mission: to save the world!

My co-worker suggested children as young as 9-12 would enjoy these, though they are located in the Teen Section of the bookstore. Of course, saving the world is not without violence, but it is not graphic nor morbid.
The Adventures of Maximum Ride
ANGEL
Book seven. Evil scientists are trying to coerce Max to provide the genetic link that will speed up evolution. This is how she will save the world, according to the scientists. And who is this Dylan they want her to believe is the perfect mate?
FANG
A horrifying prophetic message predicting Fang will be the first to die nearly destroys Max. Fang is her best friend, her partner in leadership, her soul mate. Max cannot imagine a life without Fang.
MAX
The fifth book in the Maximum Ride series. Something is destroying ships off the Hawaiian coast line and the government wants to recruit the Flock and Max to help them solve this mystery. However, Mr. Chu - a criminal mastermind - is watching the flocks every move, waiting to play out his evil plans.
Maximum Ride: The Final Warning
Book four. Asked by a group of scientists studying global warming and its causes, Max and the six members of the Flock are on an adventure involving activism and find they need to escape government officials who are watching the Flock with plans of their own.
Maximum Ride: Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports
Book three. It's time for Max and the Flock to discover their ultimate destiny and face their enemy. They must prevent "Re-evolution" from making a superior race and terminating the rest of the population!
Possibly the funniest and scariest yet, Max must protect her family and reveal her ultimate destiny!

I keep wanting to read this series, as always, there's more books to be read that time to read them! But I appreciate this overview of the series - it is a great idea and really let one know what the series is about and if they'd be interested in it. Which I am even more now!
