Theme Thursdays is a fun weekly event that will be open from one thursday to the next. Anyone can participate in it. The rules are simple:
-Select a conversation/snippet/sentence from the current book you are reading
-Mention the author and the title of the book along with your post
-It is important that the theme is conveyed in the sentence (you don't necessarily need to have the word) Ex: If the theme is KISS; your sentence can have "They kissed so gently" or "Their lips touched each other" or "The smooch was so passionate"
-This will give us a wonderful opportunity to explore and understand different writing styles and descriptive approaches adopted by authors.
This week's theme is - VEHICLE
`A city police officer was at the top of the subway stairs at the time and heard the sound of gunfire coming from the subway. He saw the culprit running from the subway and heard him shout to the city officer, `There`s a madman down there with a gun shooting at everybody.' Just then the city cop saw Officer J.S. coming up the stairs, bleeding, with a gun in his hand. The city cop fired, hitting Officer J.S. who fell, mortally wounded. Officer J.S. managed to gasp, 'I'm on the job,' before passing out. The poor city cop called a `10-13' on his portable radio and within moments, many police units were on the scene. The suspect was apprehended almost immediately and taken into custody for questioning. Officer J.S. was sped to the hospital in a city police radio car where he was rushed into surgery.`` - page 110, Proud to Have Been a New York City Transit Cop by John R. Martin

Question for everybody: I am considering changing the design of my blog and want your input. Do you find it user friendly? Are the options to follow clearly defined and easy to see? Do you like the colours and the format? What would you like to see changed?
Part of the reason I am looking to change things up is that this design, though I rather like it, is not accommodating as far as changing widths of columns. Also, it is rather traditional and perhaps boring compared to what is out there. Honestly everyone, what do you think? Please comment below. I will consider your input and if you have suggestions for free blogger friendly designs, I'd appreciate hearing about them.
I like your blog design. Sometimes it can be fun to add some animation to the header. Also maybe you want a button that others can add to their blogs.
ReplyDeleteI love your vehicle passage. It's a non-fiction book right?
Here's mine:

Yae, a subway... I am really excited about this week just because of the variety of vehicles we get to see.
ReplyDeletePS: I do think you can accomodate a change of blog design primarily because there is a lot of space on your sides that is blank. I am going to be changing mine as well :) hopefully soon!
Interesting choice!

Thank you for the comments about the blog design and my Theme Thursday post. This snippet is from a biography of a New York City transit cop and this just happened to be on the very page I was reading. So, it worked.
ReplyDeleteLooks like I'll be searching out more designs for this blog. Thanks for your input.
Wow, you had an easy book for this week's theme didn't you. Lots of fun snippets to choose from.
ReplyDeleteMy theme post is Here
Great choice ....that sounds as if it would be interesting reading.
ReplyDeleteI like the colours of your blog but a change is always fun. You can play around in Blogger in Draft with layout and design to give you an idea of what you might like.

ReplyDeleteI hope Officer J.S. makes it! Doesn't it seem as if 99% of the reasons for getting a ride in a city police car are the wrong ones? LOL!
